Flagstaff Communiversity offers programs that are for community, in community, and about community.

We offer non-hierarchical, inclusive education geared toward acting locally and strengthening community life.

We are founded on the urgent need to learn to live together in ways that are life-affirming, democracy-embracing, and responsible to the kinship of all beings. We take seriously the great social and ecological changes that are underway.

The community is our orienting principle. Instead of an abstract concept or the backdrop for personal achievement, the community is a vital presence—and that vitality is central to the goal of communiversity education.

We do not grant degrees. We offer educational experiences that help to contribute to the well-being of community life.

Our guiding questions are:

“How can we make our communities vibrant and resilient centers of life?”

“How can education contribute to human flourishing and the well-being of the world?”

Flagstaff College/Communiversity is inspired by a deeply ecological way of thinking. We call it a relational worldview and its primary principles are:

Everything is interconnected.
Everything has value.
There is a profound relationship between beauty, creativity, and life.
Nature is not lifeless, insentient matter and reality is not fundamentally mechanistic.
Reality is emergent, evolutionary, creative, and social.
We live in a world of feeling beings in responsive relation to each other.
All beings aim to enjoy the vividness of life.
